Student council was a big part of my life in high school. I haveparticipated in it since my frst year of high school. When I frst joined，I wasquiet，na?ve，and unwilling to participate in many activities. I was scared tomeet new people and afraid to apply myself. This all began to change. Half waythrough my frst year in student council， one of the advisors can up to me andasked why I did not participate that much. I did not have an answer for her anddid not know how to respond. After this，I began to think of an answer. I becamefrustrated and decided to change. I started to show up at events and had a greattime. I realized I loved this and wanted to start leading these activities. Inmy sophomore，junior，and now my senior year of high school，I asserted myselfand took on a strong leadership role in student council. I did not fgure out theanswer to why I was so reserved until this year with the help of thisquestion.

When I looked up leadership in the dictionary，it said that it was thecapacity to lead and the act or instance of leading. These are two very broaddefnitions of leadership. Many people have different notions of what this wordactually means. When I was challenged to use different items to describe whatleadership actually is，I thought this was going to be a hard and obnoxioustask. What could I learn from comparing leadership to a stuffed animal or arubber chicken? But when I sat down to come up with a couple of answers，Irealized that leadership could be compared to almost anything a personwants.

All I know about leadership I learned from a calculator. A calculator canadd everything together to come up with the best answer. It can delet e what isunnecessary and only include what is important. It can solve any type ofproblem. These are all important equalities a leader has to have. A leader hasto be able to add all of the ideas together to make the best possible plan.Leaders have to know how to decipher the good and the bad out of an idea. Theyhave to be versatile and know how to deal with different types of issues.

All I know about leadership I learned from a ball. A ball is able to bounceback up after it is dropped. It is round and has no creases. A ball can bethrown back and forth to different people. All of these qualities are alsoleadership qualities. A leader has to be ready for every situation that isthrown at him or her. He or she has to be able to bounce back from any setbacksand never dwell on the past. Leaders have to exhibit many qualities and never beclosed-minded about a situation. A leader must be able to delegate when he orshe cannot get the work done. They have to trust everyone they lead to be ableto "catch the ball" and keep a project rolling.

This activity made me realize that being a leader is so much more than justhaving authority and having the ability to take control of a situation. A leaderhas to be trusting of all the people he or she leads and，leaders must be ableto combine ideas into one encompassing idea. They cannot sit in the backgroundand watch events happen; they have to jump in and be involved. They should notdelegate all their responsibilities away.

Leadership is more than what the dictionary says it is.

I learned through all of this that I have many of these qualities.

I have the ability to solve problems，lead through adversity，and beversatile. From answering this question， I realized that I could leadeffectively，even if my leadership style is different from other individuals.When I joined student council in my frst year of high school，I did not havethese qualities because I was never put into a situation where I had to lead. Iwas too reserved to try. When I tried，I learned that I could succeed in this. Idid not realize until I answered this question about leadership. I was neverable to see that being a leader is not just about taking control of a group andtelling everyone what to When I was a freshman，I thoughtleadership was this. 一、衣物类

丹麦是一个海岛国家，虽然纬度高但是由于是海洋性的气候，全面的温差不会特别大，冬天虽然冷，但是夏天的气温不高，所以大家带衣服，要以保暖为主，不过也不需要带上太多。

一般按照抵达后初期的温度准备，准备两三套长袖长裤外套即可，鞋子以运动鞋为主，贴身要穿的内衣裤和袜子，可以多准备一点，国内的价格会相对便宜一些，而且也会舒适得多。

二、药品类

首先需要应对可能会出现的水土不服，主要的表现就是感冒发烧和拉肚子，所以感冒药和肠胃药，一定要带上，不过在选择的时候，还需要考察成分，避开禁入的药品。

眼药水同样也属于药品的行列，学习的压力还是比较大的，保护好眼睛很重要;在丹麦的夏天，也是有蚊子出没的，大家可以带上驱蚊水或者蚊帐，解决蚊虫叮咬。

三、食品类

适应西餐需要一段时间，熬过过渡期需要大家自己做饭，或者先用国内的零食过渡，这样大家可以带上一个多功能的电饭煲，可以完成很多国内的菜色，还不需要厨房。

调料的准备是最重要的内容，国内大部分的调味品，只要分量不超过限度，就可以随便带，当然要是会用到的才需要带，不要带太多。

四、日用类

床单被套等，至少要从国内带上一套，这样大家到了丹麦之后，安排住宿的时候，才可以直接使用，不用浪费时间再准备，三件套不占地方，大家也可以带上备用的，这样更换起来也会方便一些，

洗漱类的东西，带正装会比较重，而且在中途行李箱会几经辗转，有可能会漏出来，所以大家可以准备上旅行装，既能够满足大家抵达初期的生活需求，又不会很占空间，包装起来也方便。

Participation in clubs and work placements has enabled me to develop keycharacter attributes. Whilst working asa Recreation Assistant I have become more confident with working around bothadults and children; I have learnt valuable people and observational skills. Afew years ago I joined St John Cadets where I have learnt first aid skills.Through structured interviews and presentations I was chosen to represent NorthEast Wales to compete for cadet of the year. I am also a black belt in karateand have helped others improve their technique.

一、准备英语考试

英语是一门交流工具，英联邦国家像英国。澳大利亚等，需考雅思(IELTS)。北美国家像美国。加拿大考托福(TOEFL)。如果去美国读研，加考GRE.念MBA,考GMAT.去英联邦国家雅思一项就够了。考英语考试是需要重点准备的，也是招生办最看重的，最信的材料。

二、申请大学

这和申请哪国家相对应，一般最先决定去哪个国家。这涉及到准备何种英语。申请大学与专业。大学申请根据自身条件分几个梯度。好的，与自己现状对称的。保底的三档，一共申请5~6所，然后先择其中一所自己认为比较好的大学，然后先择专业。一般与自己背景一致或相关背景，也有的专业不需背景。如:MBA.MSC.教育学。社会学。亚洲研究等。在英语准备的过程可以和不同学校联系，发邮件，了解清楚后申请大学。英语成绩没出来也可以申请。跟学校说你大概能考多少，学校会给你有条件的录取，当去学校的时候，你把offer与英语成绩一起给招生办就可以了。

三、申请签证

出国留学签证就是在一个人所持的护照或旅行证件上签注（盖章），或贴上一张标签，盖章或标签带有清晰的说明文字，指明持有人进入该国的事由、允许停留的时间、或通过其领土前往其他国家的许可。一个人如果想出国旅行、定居或者留学、结婚等，除了需要持有护照以外，还应该持有相应的签证。护照是持有者的国籍和身份证明，签证则是主权国家准许外国公民或者本国公民出入境或者经过国境的许可证明。签证一般都签注在护照上，也有的签注在代替护照的其他旅行证件上，有的还颁发另纸签证。如美国和加拿大的移民签证是一张A4大的纸张，新加坡对外国人也发一种另纸签证，签证一般来说须与护照同时使用，方有效力。对外国人，一般均是根据申请者的身份和入境目的发给不同的入境签证，如旅游、探亲、移民、留学、工作等签证，并限制入境后的居留时间。因签证种类不同，要求提供的有关材料也不一样。一般对以短期居留为目的的申请限制较少，等待批准的时间也较短。对以长期居留为目的，申请则限制较多，待批的时间也较长。一个国家没有允许外国人无条件入境的义务（有条约者除外），一个外国人也没有要求一国政府允许他入境的权利。一个主权国家对外国人入境永远是有条件限制的。近些年来，随着国际贸易、国际政治关系的发展，旅游业的兴旺，许多国家的签证规定趋于简化。各国之间也有互免签证或简化签证手续的协议。

签证的有效期，是指从签证签发之日起到以后的一段时间内准许入境，超过这一期限，该签证就是无效签证。一般国家发给3个月有效的入境签证，也有的国家发给1个月有效的入境签证。有的国家对签证有效期限制很严，如德国只按申请日期发放签证。过境签证约有效期一般都比较短。

签证的停留期，是指持证人入境该国后准许停留的时间。它与签证有效期的区别，在于签证的有效期是指签证的使用期限，即在规定的时间内持证人可出入或经过该国。如某国的人、出境签证有效期为3个月，停留期为l5天，那么，这个签证从签发日始3个月内无论哪一天都可以入、出该国国境，但是，从入境当日起，到出境当日止，持证人在该国只能停留15天。有的国家签发必须在3个月之内入境，而入境后的`停留期为1个月；有的国家签证入境期限和停留期是一致的。如美国访问签证的有效期和停留期都是3个月，即在3个月内入境方为有效，入境后也只能停留3个月。签证有效期一般为1个月或者3个月；最长的一般为半年或者1年以上，如就业和留学签证；最短的为3天或者7天，如过境签证。

工作签证，是指申请国国籍之外的申请人及外籍人士向申请国使馆申请的，并且是受雇于申请国认证的正规机构。工作签证是可以进入申请国国境之内进行工作的许可证，这是有法律效力的，非移民性质的证件。如果是留学生，毕业后不同的国别申请的工作签证类型也不一样。英国留学生毕业后只能申请三类工作签证：即第二层级签证、第五层级临时工作签证和第一层级（毕业生创业者）签证。

有效次数，签证除了有效期、停留期之外，还规定有效次数。一般分为一次有效签证、两次和多次有效签证等。签证的有效次数是指该签证在有效期内，使用一次就失效。两次有效签证，即在签证有效期内可以使用两次。多次有效签证，即在签证有效期内持照人可以多次出、入其国境。例如澳大利亚、印度的旅游签证有的是在3个月或者6个月内允许多次入出境。有些国家受雇签证也是多次入境有效。当然签发何种签证，有效期限多长，有效次数多少，签证机关是根据入境申请者的具体情况决定的。

四、购买机票

五、体检和换汇

到某国家指定的检疫所体检，到中国银行换汇，带上录取通知书，上面会说明你要换多少钱。

六、行前准备

行李的规格等信息可以在各大网站查找。

七、乘机

没有乘机经历的，可提前到机场二。三小时，问机场工作人员，他们很友好的。

八、找国际办公室

他们帮你安排一切，你可以安心学习了。至于住校外还是校内，和国内的情况一样。校内安全一些，校外方便些。

Ourwell-organized activities attracted many students to practice themselves. Lastsummer, I joined the Work and Travel Programme to be a staff in an Americancompany for three months. I made good use of that chance to improve my oralEnglish and tasted western culture. I think I can understand and adapt to aforeign culture in a short period.

I firmly believe that anyone could acquire success by their right way andfighting. This is one of the reasons why I want to go abroad. What’s more, Iwant to taste and accept some western education. Since I was young I have always had a keen interest in the way that thethings around me work. From marvelling at the telephone to how planes can fly,engineering advances have never failed to captivate me. For this reason, I havealways tried to find out how such things function, and about how they have hadan impact on the society we live in today. Coupled with the fact that I havealways enjoyed the logical and problem-solving processes involved in maths andphysics, I decided several years ago to embark on a career in engineering.

Since then, I have endeavoured to find out as much about engineering aspossible. I researched the great engineers such as Brunel, and discovered thegreat works they had completed. I have attended several engineering conferences,the most recent of which I was selected to speak live on radio about myexperiences. And once I had completed several weeks' worth of work experience, Iwas assured that it was the career that I wanted to pursue.

This summer, I took part in the Nuffield Bursary scheme for a month,working in a team, at Aerogistics Ltd. Our project was to analyse and implementa new system for the distribution of consumable materials to the individualdepartments within the company. We found the current system to be highlyinefficient and after much data gathering and thought, presented our findings tothe senior managers of the company who agreed with our ideas. The last week wasspent starting the implementation of these ideas. I found the experience to behighly challenging, yet rewarding especially as it led to me gaining a GoldCrest Award. I also found it useful as I got to see engineers at work and thedaily problems that they face. I learnt that there is a lot more to being a goodengineer than possessing technical competence, although this is undoubtedlyimportant; team work, communication and leadership skills are vital as well.

I have also recently been selected to complete two placements with armyengineers. One of these placements will focus on the more practical side ofengineering while the other will focus on the skills needed by a professionalengineer focussing on project planning and leadership. I hope to find theexperience useful.

In my spare time I like to play sport and music. In secondary school I wascaptain for the Netball and Football teams, as well as taking part in variousother sports. The experience of this greatly improved my team working abilitiesas well as my fitness. As a keen musician I am working towards my grade 5 theoryand grade 7 practical on cello. I am a member of a Youth Orchestra, and havejust recently completed a tour of Italy. I am also in the school orchestra andhave led several orchestras in the past, before progressing to the LYO.

In school, I am Deputy Head Girl, helping to lead a team of over 40prefects. I find this to be a challenging and stimulating role and believe ithas developed my confidence immensely. As well as carrying out the normal dutiesof a prefect, such as supervising younger students, I must lead and manage theother prefects. My role involves arranging rotas, organising after school eventssuch as the Year 7 social and parent's evenings and public speaking as well asother responsibilities, which have developed my communication, organisation andleadership skills immensely. The role requires a lot of commitment, but it hashelped to improve my time management, as I try to strike a balance between itand school work, which is my main priority. I have also been selected to competein the Physics Olympiad and have been entered for the Biology AdvancedExtension.

During my time at university I hope to gain a good degree, which will standme in good stead for when I enter the world of work. I would like to continue myeducation in a place where I can thrive both academically and socially, andwhere I can put my determination and motivation into good use. Thank you.
